Disclosure

• I may receive free copies of books from authors, publishers, or other sources. I will always disclose in my review if I received a book for free.
• I will always provide an honest and unbiased review, regardless of how I procured the book.
• I do not accept payment for writing reviews.

Reviewer’s Approach

• Preferred Genres: science fiction, young adult, fantasy, mystery, romance
• I cannot guarantee acceptance of books outside of my preferred genre due to time constraints and personal interest.

Review Format:

• I write reviews primarily for this blog Renae Vs Books.
• I provide abridged reviews on social media platforms (TikTok, IG), review sites (Goodreads, Amazon, StoryGraph)
• The audience reach of Renae Vs Books increases daily as more platforms are added. However, due to time constraints, older reviews may not appear on new platforms.
• My primary aim is to provide content information so that sensitive readers can make informed decisions about the media they consume. It is challenging to provide spoiler-free reviews while providing content information, so spoiler sections are clearly posted.
• In addition to content information, I strive to provide readers with a brief synopsis and my overall impressions regarding plot, character development, world-building, pacing, and genre expectations.
• All reviews are based on my personal opinion.

Rating System

• I use the CAWPILE method for maintaining objectivity in my book ratings. CAWPILE evaluates characters, atmosphere, writing, plot, intrigue, logic, and enjoyment on a scale of 1-10, which creates a rating from 1-5 when averaged.
• I use this method because there are books that I personally did not enjoy reading, but I can acknowledge that the work was still well-written and a book that people will enjoy.
• Occasionally, I will read a book that has so many technical issues (formatting, editing, pacing, etc.) that the best thing that I can do is not talk about it. If I give a 1 or 2-star rating because a book is unreadable, I will not post a review to review sites or social media.
• The exception to the above point are sites such as Book Sirens, NetGalley, etc. I will always provide an honest review and feedback to the sites where I received the arc, but maybe not review sites (see above points).
• I reserve the right to not publish a review on Renae Vs Books (blog, review sites, and social media), for any reason.

Publication and Timing

• I strive to read the book within 2-5 weeks if I have requested the title; I cannot guarantee that I will read a book I did not request.
• I provide abridged reviews on NetGalley, BookSirens, Goodreads, and Storygraph within the same time period (2-5 weeks).
• I aim to post the review on my blog, Amazon, and all of my socials during the week of publication. Ideally, the book review will be published to Renae Vs Books the day prior publication. I do this for readers because mood reading is king, and it is easier to get people to read books when they are excited about them.
• Please note that due to high volumes these timelines may be delayed.

Feedback and Edits

• I do not provide authors or publishers with the opportunity to review or request an edit of my review prior to publication.
• If there is a factual error in my review, please let me know, and I will correct it.
• I will not issue an edit, correction, or an apology for my opinions.
• I strive to provide extensive content information for the titles that I review, but with the rapidly changing socio-political landscape, it is impossible to identify every micro-aggression and macro-aggression. My reviews are in good faith, however, I do not edit old posts or re-read books, just to update reviews under the current lens.

Code of Ethics

• I am committed to providing an honest, fair, and respectful review.
• I will not engage in personal attacks, hate speech, or disrespectful behavior in my reviews or in interactions with authors, publishers, or readers.
• I will not tolerate bullying from authors, publishers, or readers due to expressing an opinion, and will block those who engage in such behavior.

Please keep in mind that due to time constraints, I may be unable to accept all review requests. If I accept your book for review, I will strive to provide a thorough and timely review.
